Pulitzer Center Climate Conference Attendees Call for Action

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting showcased its growing international reach last week with an impressive two-day conference on covering climate change. Interconnected: Reporting the Climate Crisis drew 150 journalists from 30 countries, including many from GIJN member organizations. Videos of the sessions are now publicly available, with panels on using data and visual storytelling, rainforests and the Arctic, and using satellite imagery, artificial intelligence, and geospatial analysis in investigations.

A highlight of the event was a public call (above) for the Brazilian government to do more to find missing journalist Dom Phillips, a freelancer for The Guardian, and Bruno Araújo Pereira, a staff member of Brazil’s indigenous affairs agency. The two were last seen alive on June 5 on a boat deep in the Amazon, near the Peruvian border, where Phillips was reporting about illegal mining and fishing – a dangerous assignment in the region. On Wednesday, the media reported that a suspect had confessed to the murder, and led police to two bodies thought to be Pereira and Phillips.
