Gina Chua on 4 Tips for Innovative Journalism in the Age of AI

In this masterclass video, Gina Chua, executive director of the Tow-Knight Center at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York and a leading voice in newsroom innovation, shares four practical tips for journalists navigating the challenges and opportunities of AI.

Chua, who is also executive editor at Semafor, encourages reporters to “get their hands dirty” by experimenting directly with new technologies instead of waiting to fully understand them. Curiosity is key: journalists should explore how AI tools work and how they can support reporting. She also urges reporters to question newsroom culture and assumptions about how journalism is produced, especially in a time of rapid technological change.
