GIJN Joins IRE in Mourning Sudden Loss of IRE Executive Director Diana R. Fuentes

The Global Investigative Journalism Network joins IRE in mourning the sudden loss of IRE Executive Director Diana R. Fuentes.

Fuentes, who died unexpectedly last week, was a strong supporter of and collaborator with GIJN since she took her position in 2021.

She welcomed international journalists and GIJN member organizations to IRE conferences and training and ensured that IRE continued to cosponsor GIJN’s luncheon for international journalists at IRE’s annual conference. She will be remembered for her many kindnesses and her generous mentorship of countless young journalists.

“This is a big loss for our community. We are grateful to Diana for all her support, kindness, and commitment to investigative journalism. We will continue our partnership with IRE, a GIJN member organization, which is an important way to honor her and continue with her legacy,” said Emilia Díaz-Struck, executive director of GIJN.

GIJN sends its deepest sympathies to IRE’s board, staff, and its 5,000 members.
