GIJC27 Early Bird Tickets On Sale — Register Now

GIJN is excited to announce that the registration page for the 15th Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC27) is now open and early bird tickets are available through March 15, 2027. GIJC27 is brought to you by the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN), and VVOJ, together with their regional partners Journalismfund Europe and Free Press Unlimited. It will be held from Wednesday, October 20 through Saturday, October 23, 2027 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. A pre-conference day will take place on Tuesday, October 19.

Held once every two years, the GIJC is the world’s premier international gathering of watchdog and data journalists. The conference venue for GIJC27 will be de Deolen ICC Rotterdam, an iconic concert and congress center located in the heart of the city. With over 30 halls in a central location, it is the perfect venue for international events and conventions ranging from intimate symposia for 150 people to large conferences with 3,000 visitors.

From October 19 – 23, the event will feature dozens of expert-led sessions, panels, workshops and networking opportunities every day. The conference is a chance to learn from the best in the business — winners of the Pulitzer Prize and other top awards, pioneers of data journalism, and fearless investigators who have exposed corruption and abuses of power almost everywhere.

Our last in-person conference, GIJC25, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, drew more than 1,500 journalists from 135 countries and territories. It assembled our most diverse slate of expert conference speakers ever, who represented nearly 100 countries — including triple the prior number of conference panelists from Asia, as well as a significant increase in the number of speakers from Africa, MENA, and Latin America. In all, the conference featured nearly 400 speakers, including two Nobel laureates (Maria Ressa and Joseph Stiglitz), and more than 150 practical panels and workshops.

  • Call for Ideas: We’re seeking great session ideas and speakers for the remaining open sessions. If you have a cutting-edge proposal for a session that could make a positive difference for investigative projects, skills, or newsrooms, the deadline to submit session/panel ideas is January 17, 2027 for consideration by our conference committee. Keep in mind that the conference has a laser-like focus on investigative tools and methodologies, so we’re looking for sessions that will share innovative and practical insights and apps for watchdog reporting, and for diverse and tough press environments.
  • Fellowships: Our popular fellowship program — which brought more than 130 fellows to GIJC25 from 80 countries and territories — continues with GIJC27. Fellowships cover round-trip flights to Rotterdam, a four-night hotel stay, the registration fee, and various other costs. These are offered to full-time journalists with a working knowledge of English, in the Global South, and those from historically underrepresented groups. (Eligibility criteria can be found here.) The deadline for fellowship applications is January 31, 2027.
  • Global Shining Light Award: Submissions are open for GIJN’s coveted Global Shining Light Award — which honors top-notch investigative journalism produced in a developing or transitioning country, and conducted amid tough or threatening conditions. We offer two award categories, Small & Medium Outlets and Large Outlets (with more than 20 staff). Top winners get a cash prize of $2,500, plus a trip to the conference in Rotterdam to receive their award in front of a thousand-plus colleagues from around the world. The GIJC27 award is for stories published between Jan. 1, 2025 and Dec. 31, 2026. Deadline for award submissions is February 28, 2027. More award entry details can be found here.
