Academic and Training Scholarships for Investigative Journalism

Want to learn how to carry out watchdog investigations, or data-driven reporting? GIJN has put together a list of available scholarships from universities and training organizations around the world. The list includes courses solely focusing on investigative or data journalism, alongside journalism degrees with an investigative or data module.

Some of the scholarships listed are general, and not journalism-exclusive. Others are specific, and are available to journalism students with an interest in certain topics. Some scholarships cover all fees associated with the course, and others offer fixed grants or fee reductions.

This is not an endorsement of specific schools by GIJN. Prospective students should do their own due diligence before applying. We always welcome suggestions of scholarships not listed here, or additions to those that we have. If you have any feedback, you can write to us here.

We hope that this will be an invaluable resource for the next generation of investigative journalists, and current journalists furthering their formal training. You can find more information about grants and fellowships available to journalists, alongside GIJN’s tips and resources for investigative journalism students.
