Announcing IJ WEEK: An Online Event with More than 100 Speakers Dedicated to Investigative Journalism Around the World
26–30 October 2026
The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) is pleased to announce the Investigative Journalism Week (IJ WEEK), a new, multi-day online gathering of journalists featuring more than 35 panels, workshops, and networking sessions with over 100 speakers. The sessions will be devoted to various themes, including tech, the environment, corruption, and money laundering, to name a few.
GIJN is looking forward to welcoming the investigative journalism community, journalism academics and trainers, as well as students, to this virtual experience, to expand the opportunities for knowledge sharing and networking. This event will offer a chance to learn from some of the best in business in different parts of the world, while featuring training on the latest tools and techniques, as well as cutting-edge workshops.
This year marks 25 years since the first international meeting of investigative journalists, which became known as the Global Investigative Journalism Conference or GIJC. Join us from October 26 – 30 to celebrate this anniversary, network, and learn.
“We are excited to launch this initiative, as it is an important way to honor the courageous investigative journalism work done worldwide, while also empowering our community with the latest resources, methods, and tips that allow us to continue holding power to account,” said GIJN Executive Director Emilia Díaz-Struck. “We are immensely proud to see how the investigative journalism movement has grown in 25 years, expanding cross-regional connections and knowledge sharing across over 100 countries around the world, which has resulted in impactful and relevant investigations for citizens in different countries and regions.”
GIJN serves as the international hub for the world’s investigative reporters. Our core mission is to support and strengthen investigative journalism around the world — with special attention to those from repressive regimes and marginalized communities. Today, with a staff based in over 20 countries, GIJN works in a dozen languages to link together the world’s most enterprising journalists, giving them the tools, technology, and training to go after abuses of power and lack of accountability.
Díaz-Struck also highlighted that IJ WEEK will also allow people to support GIJN and its mission to continue providing free services and opportunities to the global investigative journalism community.
In 2025, GIJN responded to more than 2,000 queries and assistance requests from journalists around the world, organized and led training activities that benefited thousands of participants, published more than 250 stories and 11 free reporting guides, and convened the first-ever Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Asia, in partnership with our member Malaysiakini, which attracted more than 1,500 attendees from 135 countries and territories to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, among some highlights.
As journalism, and especially the work of investigative journalists, faces an even greater threat than before with declining press freedom, it is important for organizations like GIJN to continue supporting our community. It has also become more important for us to seek virtual avenues to create spaces that are more inclusive and allow for greater participation from all parts of the world. With IJ WEEK we hope to step towards both sustainability and inclusivity.
Ticket sales for the event will end on October 11 at midnight EST.
Through this event we’re working hard to expand GIJN’s capacity and reach more journalists where they most need our help. We believe investigative journalism that bolsters freedom, transparency, and accountability is worth fighting for. If you cannot participate in the event but would still like to support our work, you can donate to us here.
Cancellation policy: Cancellation requests must be sent via email to academy@gijn.org. Until October 20, 2026, tickets will be refunded, except for the processing fees (GIJN’s processing fee and Stripe fee). After that date, requests for refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Note: If you need support to attend, we have a limited number of available tickets for you. Please fill in this form by July 31st.
