Welcome to Global Network News

Next Global Conference in Rio

Big plans are underway for the next Global Investigative Journalism Conference, scheduled for Rio de Janeiro October 12-15, 2013. This will be our eighth global conference since 2001 – and the first in the southern hemisphere. For GIJC13, the Global Network is partnering with two great organizations: local host Abraji and Lima, Peru-based IPYS. The event will combine three conferences: Abraji’s national congress, IPYS’s Latin America investigative conference (COLPIN), and the GIJC. The combined conference should be the world’s largest ever gathering of investigative journalists.

Secretariat Launched

The GIJN provisional secretariat, begun in February, is busy fundraising, planning for the Rio conference, updating the website, and working to give the Global Network more capacity. Our Facebook community has quickly expanded to more than 600 followers in 35 countries. There’s plenty of interest out there: journalists from 30 countries have asked GIJN for help in the past four months.

Member News

A warm welcome to GIJN’s newest members: Publica (Brazil), Associazione di Giornalismo Investigativo (Italy), the SomaFoundation (Hungary), and the Icelandic Center for Investigative Journalism. The groups were approved by GIJN’s steering committee, the Volunteer Group. GIJN now has 50 member organizations in 30 countries. Look for more new members in coming weeks. Membership in GIJN is free and open to nonprofit organizations that actively support or promote investigative journalism.
