GIJN 2024 Board Election Results: Four Incumbents Re-Elected, Three New Members

GIJN’s member organizations re-elected four current board members whose terms expired this year, and also voted in three new board members.

The GIJN community elected four at-large board representatives, including new members Daniel Howden and Elza Sandrine Sawadogo, along with returning members Brant Houston and Paul Radu.

Three regional representatives were also elected. Guilherme Amado (Latin America/Caribbean) joins the board for the first time, while incumbents Rana Sabbagh (Middle East/North Africa) and Marina Walker Guevara (North America) were re-elected.

Marina Walker Guevara won the North America board seat through a coin toss, per GIJN by-laws, prevailing in the tiebreaker over Brant Houston, the current GIJN Board chair. Houston remains on the board as an at-large representative.

In all, 13 candidates vied for seven seats on the 15-member board. Elections for half the board are held every year. Board members serve for two years.

The top vote-getter was Marina Walker Guevara. Full voting information is available here.
