Karen studied journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she received her Master’s Degree in Television, Radio & Film. She worked as a reporter/producer in ABC-TV affiliate newsrooms in Syracuse, NY and High Point, NC, earning the latter’s first Emmy Award for newscast production. She’s also a North Carolina (USA) Working Press Award-winning writer, with bylines in the Charlotte Observer, Southern Living, Caribbean Travel and Life, and more.
For 20+ years she has used her storytelling skills to raise more than $185 million for NGOs and nonprofit organizations that protect refugees worldwide, get people back to work, fight food insecurity, secure scholarships for motivated students, and provide safe spaces for abused and neglected children.
