Panama Paper Fined for Emotional Distress

A civil court judge in Panama has ordered the newspaper La Prensa to pay two state contractors for causing "emotional distress" a fine of $600,000 plus $600,000 in legal costs. The paper had dug into "irregular allocation of public resources." La Prensa is appealing the order, and the Inter American Press Association has denounced the ruling as "a clear attack on freedom of the press" that will discourage investigative reporting.
