Inside the Panama Papers Investigation

How do journalists organize and analyze 11.5 million secret records? The leaked files were larger than the combined total of Wikileaks Cablegate, Offshore Leaks, Lux Leaks, and Swiss Leaks: e-mails, pdfs, photos, and a database spanning from the 1970s to 2016. ICIJ and German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung used Nuix digital analysis software and an optical character recognition (OCR) program to transform data and images -- like scanned IDs and signed contracts -- into machine-readable and easy to search files.
