SIMA Awards Go to Docs from 14 Countries

The winning documentaries of the Social Impact Media Awards were just announced. The honorees include lots of intriguing works from 14 countries. Best Feature Documentary went to Who Is Dayani Cristal, a chilling, investigative hunt for an unidentified man found dead along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Oscar Nominees Showcase Top Documentaries

Laura Poitras' Citizenfour on NSA whistleblower Ed Snowden won the Oscar for best documentary, but all the nominees are worth a look. "Virunga" is the story of people fighting poachers, rebels, and corporations to protect the Congo; "'Finding Vivian Maier' looks at the mysterious nanny now considered one of the 20th century’s greatest photographers; and "Last Days of Vietnam" revisits America's chaotic exit from that war.

Social Impact Media Awards Finalists Announced

Out of 448 films from 119 countries, 37 films were short-listed for the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) 2014, an annual international documentary and educational impact media competition.These powerful documentaries capture stories from 29 countries around the world.
