Appleby Files Action On Paradise Papers

The offshore company at the heart of the Paradise Papers has launched breach of confidence proceedings against the Guardian and the BBC. In legal correspondence, Appleby has also demanded that the media houses disclose any of the 6 million Appleby documents that informed their reporting about tax dodges used by individuals and multinational companies. It is also seeking damages for the disclosure of what it says are confidential legal documents. The documents were leaked to Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung, which shared them with the ICIJ, which ultimately led a team of 380 journalists from 96 media organisations across 67 countries, including The New York Times, Le Monde, the ABC in Australia and CBC News in Canada.
