GIJC15: Global Muckrakers Return to Norway in October 2015

Join us October 8-11, 2015, for the 9th Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Lillehammer, Norway. This seminal event will feature the world’s leading investigative reporters, top data journalists, and experts in security, collaboration, teaching and training, freedom of information, and more.

GIJC15 is hosted by SKUP, the Norwegian Association for Critical and Investigative Press and the Global Investigative Journalism Network, and is co-sponsored by our partners worldwide.

Lillehammer is a small city in the countryside north of Oslo, best known as the host city of the Winter Olympics in 1994. The conference venue is the impressive Radisson Blu Lillehammer. Details on registration, transportation, and more will be posted soon on a new conference site. A limited number of travel grants will be available for journalists from developing and transitioning countries.

About the GIJC

The Global Investigative Journalism Conference is the world’s largest international gathering of investigative reporters. The conferences are held every two years. Since the first gathering in Copenhagen in 2001, they have brought together more than 5,000 journalists from 100 countries. Later conferences were held in Copenhagen (2003), Amsterdam (2005), Toronto (2007), Lillehammer (2008), Geneva (2010), Kiev (2011), and Rio de Janeiro (2013). Rio was the 8th GIJC, and the first in the southern hemisphere.

The conferences are widely credited with playing a key role in the rapid global expansion of investigative reporting over the past decade. By focusing on skills and training, they have helped spread state-of-the-art investigative reporting, data journalism, and cross-border collaboration around the world. Attendees have returned home to run groundbreaking projects into corruption and abuse of power, launch investigative teams and nonprofit centers, and spread investigative reporting to where it is needed most.

Each GIJC is hosted by a member organization of the Global Investigative Journalism Network, which oversees and co-sponsors the conference. Producing the event requires intense planning, fund-raising, and operational skills.

Lillehammer was chosen at the GIJN members meeting in Rio on October 13, 2013. After considering strong proposals for two exciting locales — Lillehammer, Norway, and Vancouver, Canada — GIJN members voted to return to Norway, site of the fifth GIJC.
