Register for Free Training Course: Digital Security for Journalists in Times of Crisis
07–21 July 2025
The Global Investigative Journalism Network and the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas are offering a new course for free on Digital Security for Journalists in Times of Crisis.
The course is designed for freelancers, editors, or other media professionals who do not have any prior experience with digital security. Attendees will learn how to assess their digital risks and how they can use encryption and multi-factor authentication, among other techniques, to improve their security. At the end of the training, they will also be able to navigate online harassment and censorship.
The course is being led by Luis Assardo, a freelance digital security trainer, Open Source Intelligence (OSNIT) researcher, and investigative data journalist. He also works with Holistic Protection Collective (HPC), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), and other human rights organizations to provide protocols, risk assessment, and training to journalists under attack.
Assardo is also the Founder of Confirmado, a project in Guatemala fighting disinformation since 2018. He has won awards for his investigative work on disinformation, troll factories, hate speech, and online extremism.
The course will take place online and is available in both English and Spanish. It will run from July 7 – August 3, 2025 and registered participants will have access to course material during this duration. The course is being offered free of charge.
By the end of the course the participants will be able to:
