Building an Army of Citizen Investigators • Paul Radu
In this masterclass video, Paul Radu, co-founder and chief of innovation at the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), shares his vision for turning ordinary citizens into investigative journalists.
Radu argues that inspiring audiences to create their own content matters more than simply building an audience for your reporting. By breaking complex investigations down into simple, replicable steps (like tracing a piece of property back to its real owner), journalists can equip citizens to investigate what happens in their own neighborhoods. He explains why this requires building a full investigative infrastructure and why partnering with the video gaming industry to build entertaining games is one of the most powerful ways to draw in and empower a younger generation of investigators.
