Aussie Walkley Awards Just Announced

Lots to like in the just-announced Walkley Awards, which feature Australia's best journalism. Top prize went to The Teacher’s Pet, a podcast on the disappearance of a Sydney mother in 1982. Judges described the work as “a masterclass in investigative journalism." Other winners of note: an investigation into sexual harassment in the Aussie entertainment industry, deaths of indigenous people in custody, and reporting on Myanmar and Syria.

Aussie Awards Honor Investigative Reports

Australia's Walkley Foundation announced its annual awards this week, highlighting some impressive investigative reporting. Of special note: Four Corner's exposé of "rotten" conditions in greyhound racing, Fairfax Media on government payoffs to migrant smugglers, and ABC TV and Fairfax on exploitive practices by 7-Eleven.

Impressive Reporting in Australia’s Walkley Awards

Australia's big annual journalism honors, the Walkley Awards, were announced this week, and feature impressive in-depth reporting. Among the topics awarded: the plight of Palestinian and Israeli children in Israeli courts, Australia's asylum system, child sex abuse in the Salvation Army, and "unconscionable" practices by the nation's top banks.
