Bellingcat Leads Crowd To Expose ISIS

An attempt by Islamic State supporters to showcase their international network by sharing photographs has instead turned into a citizen journalism campaign to expose ISIS users and their locations. The UK-based Bellingcat group has asked followers to identify features in the images and messages. Using geolocation and other techniques, investigators have exposed several locations, including home addresses.

2016 Pulitzers Honor Investigative Work

On the 100th anniversary of the award, the Pulitzer Prizes today honored investigative reporting in various categories. Among the 2016 winners: Associated Press for slavery exposure (Public Service); Tampa Bay Times on mental institutions and failing schools (Investigative & Local Reporting); ProPublica & Marshall Project on police and rape (Explanatory Reporting); Joby Warrick for Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS (Book).
