YouTube and the Google News Initiative announced funding for 87 news organizations in 23 countries to assist newsrooms and publishers with strengthening online video capabilities and experimenting with new formats for video journalism. Since July, hundreds of organizations submitted proposals through an open application process. The global mix includes broadcasters, traditional and digital publishers, local media, agencies and creators. Projects will focus on issues such as expansion of newsroom video operations and new ways of reporting news through video; reaching younger audiences online and exploring live and fact-checking formats; sustainability of news organizations, including work on new business models and programs to support a healthy news ecosystem.
