ProPublica Hits 10 Years, $24m Budget

Nonprofit investigative journalism center ProPublica is marking its tenth anniversary with some impressive statistics. The New York City-based newsroom, now with a branch in Chicago, boasts a budget that will near $24 million this year, making it the world's largest investigative reporting nonprofit. The organization is supported primarily by foundations and over 34,000 individual donors. Its budget supports a staff of about 120, making it the largest member organization in GIJN's network.

Network Visualization: Deals for Developers

Explore donations to D.C. officials and candidates from 133 developers that received subsidies. The reporters began with a database of roughly 100,000 campaign contributions in D.C. municipal elections since 2003. They also obtained lists of property tax breaks and other annual subsidies granted by city officials in recent years.
