Investigative Reporters in Chile Form Network

Chilean investigative journalists have formed a network to improve tools, share skills, and fight for access. Launched May 3, the Red de Periodistas Chile (Chilean Journalists Network) will take aim at such issues as a proposed new "gag law" which would criminalize leaked information on criminal investigations.

HacksLabs Funds Latin Data Journalism Projects

Three Latin American data journalism projects focused on transparency and accountability have won $25,000 grants from HacksLabs. Mexican daily El Universal and Chile's Zoohash will track government spending, while Mexico's Animal Político will map organized crime.

Mapping the Power Elite in Your Country

Poderopedia, which reveals relationships among elites in a country or region, has broadened its platform and is now offering its content and code to users worldwide to use and improve upon. The project was founded in Chile last year after winning a 2011 Knight News Challenge award.
