Event – Panel to speak on African Investigative Journalism
Insight News Television and City University London present a panel discussion and screening, ahead of the launch of Insight News’ “Africa Investigates” series of films in cooperation with Al Jazeera English on 4 November 2011.
“Africa Investigates” is the start of an entirely new way of practicing journalism – giving African journalists the tools and the support they need to tell their own, vital stories.
Multi-award-winning African journalists Sorious Samura and Anas Aremeyaw Anas will join Insight News’ internationally acclaimed Managing Editor Ron McCullagh and City’s John Owen to discuss the new wave of African journalists who are putting themselves in danger to give a voice to the continent’s voiceless.
There will also be screening the first of eight films in the “Africa Investigates” series: What Price The Story? The 24-minute film, which sees Sorious return to the National Security Agency prison where he was tortured in 2000, reflects on the risks journalists take to expose the truth.
