How Collaboration Enables Transcendent, World-Changing Journalism

The Pulitzer Center’s Marina Walker Guevara sees collaboration as one of the most significant paradigm changes in journalism of the past 50 years. In a keynote speech at the Collaborative Journalism Summit, she said that by working together, reporters can investigate stories that “transcend us, transcend our competitive instincts, our newsrooms’ politics, and our own egos.”

Investigative Journalists Form Alliance in Latin America

Cross-border cooperation was the big takeaway from a three-day meeting of investigative journalists from 17 countries in San Juan, Puerto Rico, November 4-6. Billed as “The First Caribbean Meeting of Investigative Journalists: Tracking the Stories that Connect Us,” one aim was to create a counterweight to the power of organized crime by cooperating across borders, according to Carla Minet of the Center of Investigative Journalism of Puerto Rico.

Collaboration Featured as 300 Gather for DataHarvest

DataHarvest, the European Investigative Journalism Conference, opened Friday, May 7, in Brussels with more than 300 participants coming from across Europe, and some from outside, as well. There was special emphasis on sharing methods and techniques — as well as failures — at the conference. The keynote speech came from Marina Walker Guevara, deputy director of GIJN member International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. Guevara stressed how ICIJ chooses people to be part of its projects, including its award-winning series on offshore tax scams.
