Journalism educator, author, and watchdog journalist Ben Bagdikian passed away yesterday. He was 96, and lived a celebrated life that included a Pulitzer Prize, releasing the Pentagon Papers, dean of the University of California Journalism School, and serving as a powerful voice for journalistic integrity. His seminal 1983 book, The Media Monopoly, predicted the growing control of media by a handful of corporations. “Never forget that your obligation is to the people," Bagdikian told his students.
