Canada Investigations Highlight CAJ Awards

The Canadian Association of Journalists rolled out its annual awards over the weekend, highlighting impressive investigative stories from across the country. Among the winners were exposés of freewheeling spending that brought down Alberta's premier; the human organ trade; unequal education; rail fatigue; and stalkers and murderers.

Small Weekly Wins Top Canadian Award

The top investigative journalism award by the Canadian Association of Journalists goes to a small alternative weekly in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for exposing that the Halifax mayor abused his role as executor of a half-million dollar estate, leading to his removal as mayor and executor. This shows what a small paper with few resources can do when there’s determination, talent, and editorial leadership
